Sacramento County Sheriff's Office investigators are examining a shooting incident that erupted on April 18 2026 at Howe Community Park in the Arden-Arcade area while law enforcement were shutting down an unauthorized event of hundreds of attendees.
How It Started
Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies were first dispatched to the Arden-Arcade park just after half past six in the evening after learning of subjects reportedly carrying hidden weapons. Not long after, additional information came in concerning a possible fight breaking out within the park grounds.
Aerial units flew over the park but came back with no confirmation of a fight. Nevertheless, it was evident that a massive group had gathered without authorization in an unauthorized manner.
The Shooting Itself
Deputies worked to disperse the crowd by forming a perimeter and making announcements instructing the assembled crowd to clear out. About 15 minutes were allotted for people to comply.
While deputies worked to disperse the gathering that 20 to 25 gunshots echoed through the night. The sudden gunfire caused mass panic. Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies swiftly website started locating gunshot victims.
Those Who Were Hit
In total, four people were identified as having gunshot wounds. The shooting victims — a group of one female and three male victims each apparently in their twenties — were brought to nearby hospitals. Emergency physicians confirmed that two were treated for serious injuries, one person had injuries of a moderate nature, and one sustained minor gunshot wounds. In a positive development, no fatalities were reported and all four were stable.
Sacramento Metro Fire arrived on scene and aided in treating the four victims prior to hospital transport.
The Investigation
The primary shooting scene was determined to have occurred along the Cottage Way side of the park near the Home Depot situated at the 2200 block of Howe Ave. Crime scene investigators recovered additional shell casings along Cottage Way. Ballistic damage were discovered in the iron perimeter fence bordering the nearby Home Depot. The physical evidence suggested that a shooter had been sending rounds south from Cottage Way aimed at the Home Depot store. The store itself was temporarily locked down while law enforcement worked the area. CSI units alongside detectives worked tirelessly late into the evening.
